The Men’s Gay Chorus of Washington, D.C. (GMCW) decided to confront protestors in Knoxville head on with the sound of music!
The members of the Gay Men’s Chorus were boarding a bus outside the Knoxville Civic Coliseum and they were encountered by a group of about eight anti-LGBTQ protesters. The bus was scheduled to leave, but Artistic Director (Thea Kano) made the driver to stop. In that moment is when something really meaningful happened, the men stepped off the bus and began singing and drowning out the protesters chants!
The chorus’s sang, “We Shall Overcome” and “Make Them Hear You,” from the Broadway musical, “Ragtime.” As they sang, people driving and walking by stopped and showed their support.
