Avoid Long, Hot Showers
Spending too much time in the shower will dry out your skin. Dr. Lauren Ploch, a certified dermatologist with the American Academy of Dermatology, says “the shorter the shower, the better.” Long showers lead to longer water exposure that strips the skin of necessary body oils leaving skin itchy and dry.
By using lukewarm water and taking a quick shower, no more than five minutes, will limit your water exposure and result in skin becoming less dry.
Choose a Gentle Body Cleanser
Avoid the average body soap from your grocery store. These tend to be filled with antibacterial components and heavily perfumed. Both of which further exacerbate dry skin.
Instead, purchase soaps with natural ingredients that will help defend skin against dryness.
Exfoliate Twice a Week
Autumn and winter bring cold air outside and heaters bring warm air inside. This constant changing of air temperatures can wreck havoc on your skin.
